Cathy Smidt-Vermilion studied art at the University of Sioux Falls with a double emphasis of fine art and computer imaging. While attending USF, she was named Outstanding Student of the Arts & Humanities. The highlight of her artistic endeavors thus far has been her student show. It was believed at the time to have had the highest attendance ever for a senior art show. Cathy’s work has been described as linear in style. While she doesn’t disagree, she considers rhythm to be the focus of her work. “While I do stray occasionally, rhythm is what I like to explore when I work on a painting. Rhythm is found in all of the arts. Whether it is literature, music, poetry, dance—rhythm unites us all.”
